I personally haven’ t seen it often at luxury dealers, but I saw one today. Its not surprising honestly. I was in Pasadena today with my dad looking at cars at the local Jag dealership, and they have this gorgeous F-Pace SVR as their showroom centerpiece (along with a I-Pace for $88k, an XE, XJ, F-Type SVR convertible and an E-Pace. Crowded). It stood out though and you c ant help but poke around in it. Anyway, Sticker for this SVR is $97,547. Alongside the window sticker however:

Yes you see that right. A $25k markup just because. Bringing the total price to $122,547. It also looks to be the highest priced F-Pace SVR within 100 miles of us. Hopefully it sits long enough for them to take off the adm.

Man don’t they already have a hard enough time selling Jags as is?

Yes. The F-Pace is a big seller for Jaguar. But looking at the numbers that’ s not saying much. And doing stuff like this undermines themselves. I also read reports that the E-Pace is taking a chunk of F-Pace sales.

That’s some serious goddamn crack pipe.  They’ll be lucky to sell that thing at invoice.

And I thought the local jokers trying to add a 10K ADM to Stinger GT when tey debuted was bad.  I suspect none sold.

I wouldn’ t give them over $80k for it. And even then that’ s generous.

Those same GT’s with insane markups are the same ones that are now discounted under $35k.

Seriously.  It’ll be worth no more than 60k as soon as it is driven off the lot.

I’d let the general manager know that you’ll never buy a vehicle from them at any price, this sort of tomfuckery cannot be tolerated.

It’s as like Kia dealers didn’t think public perception was bad enough.  A dealer in my area had Stingers with asking prices over 60K with the ADM.  I laughed then and am laughing very hard now.

As a long time observer of car dealerships. M y seasoned advice is to pay full price for this vehicle, finance through this dealer, and add anything they suggest to the bill.

AKA I hate to repeat myself but...  The Stealer’s wife needs a new stole.  You just lay down like lambs now.

Its the reason why we left. My dad said thats exactly one used XE worth of markup. And hes right.

All this proves yet again that franchise dealers need to be abolished. Its insane to think that you can special order a vehicle from the factory to spec, and still potentially have to pay a markup on the vehicle.

To some extent, I agree - there are bad dealers, but a few good ones out there, too. Those in more populated areas can simply pit them against each other, and one will likely drop the ADM to make the sale, but not everyone is so lucky.  I’d rather let the bad ones fail due to incompetence than be banned, but in so many places they have a virtual monopoly for their brand, so there’s that.

This is true. And the bad ones ruin it for the good honest ones that just want to do honest business.

But in this instance? Its greed. This is the LA metropolitan in a city (Pasadena) with a median income over $70k, and a neighboring city (San Marino) with a median income of over $150k. They know what they are doing. Not to mention they don’ t have a monopoly . This dealer is one of 12 Jag dealers within 50 miles, with the other one just 15 miles away downtown LA.

And then brands get reps from bad dealers (like Hyunkia).

Maybe this specific Jag dealer won’t be long for this world, fishing for suckers can’t be a sustainable business model . For MBs anyway, the LA area is known to probably be the best place in the country, as the dealers compete. For a lower volume brand like Jag, dearly trying to gain sales, I have to imagine not many carry the ADM.
